And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the the land, that I should not destroy it......
In North Carolina, the Lord found such a man and woman to come and stand in the gap in Oklahoma City on behalf of His passion toward this Land:
Victor was born in Edgecombe County in a small town in North Carolina called Tarboro. In High School, he met Barbara and they fell in love, wed in 1976 and were blessed with three lovely children, Victor Jr, Crystal and Charita. To date, this has increased to Victor Jr & Shyeta, Crystal & Freeman, and Charita & Jay. They have been blessed with ten grandchildren.
During a 20 year tenure in the United States Air Force, God was preparing Victor & Barbara for a mighty work in His Kingdom. While he was away from his family, God saved Victor in a motel room in Pine Hurst, North Carolina and at the same time, saving Barbara in Fort Steward, Georgia.
In 1982 they were transferred to Oklahoma City and served under
Elder W. Roberts, Power House Church of God in Christ.
In 1987, God gave them a vision to open a church and minister to those that no one else wanted to minister to. The place was to be called "The House of Prayer". This was to be a Spirit Led ministry reaching the community and the world with the uncompromising message of "God's Truth". A place were deliverance is always available, while providing spiritual growth to the individual and to the Body of Christ.
Being obedient to the call, they became the Pastors of the location at 1728 East Park Place in Oklahoma City, Ok. Beginning with 5 families, this facility was rented with the option to buy. At purchase time, the price offered by the owner exceeded the price desired, but God said "yes" to the offered price knowing that in later years the owner would be blessed to be given a church and at the same time bless us with a discontinuation of note payments causing the balance paid for the property to fall in the original price that God intended us to pay.
The Church faced much opposition. Some came and others went, but House of Prayer remained with the Lord, Him being the faithful provider.
Later, the Lord placed upon the Pastors' hearts to begin a year of daily prayer. With God's Grace, five souls committed to and accomplished this every day prayer, from 6 to 7 PM, for a complete year. This set the foundation and stage for where we are today.
God further challenged us to increase in the purchase of property. The property next door to the old church was a drug house. This property, despite much resistance, was later purchased and became the church's parking lot. A total of 7 lots have been purchased to date, continually confirming that God is with us.
During the journey, God burdened Pastor Victor to increase with connections in the Body of Christ. Not knowing God's future plans, he enrolled in Southwestern College of Christian Ministries. Since graduation, the International Pentecostal Holiness Church became our church covering. He met influential men that were to be used to further the Vision of Christ. The Superintendent and Board of the Heartland Conference gave us the added ability to acquire the necessary property and to build where we are right now.
The Lord has been merciful and gracious to the House of Prayer. The name of this church exemplifies what this body stands for.
We believe that through prayer, fasting and seeking God's face that "God" has accomplished what you now see and
THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
COME LORD JESUS, COME!!!!
